Workshops

Unique, creative, encouraging art workshops for children and adults

Winter Session Begins January 9th

Storytelling Crafts Workshop for Ages 6-8

Group 1: Monday afternoons 3:30-4:45
$120 (includes materials fee)
8 week session :: January 9- March 12 (no classes on 1/16 & 1/20)

Story puppets, story books, story maps ... oh my! In this workshop, children will learn to give life to the stories in their minds with projects and activities that nurture their natural inclination to tell their own imaginative stories.  Throughout the session, children will use different arts and crafts techniques and writing to create their own storyland complete with unique characters, plot, and setting. Much emphasis will be placed on celebrating each child's particular mode of artistic expression.

Creative Journaling Workshop for Ages 9-12

 Group 1: Thursday afternoons 3:30-4:45

 8 week session :: January 12 - March 8 (no class on 2/23)

This workshop offers children practice in the art of journal keeping.  Children will learn to turn their bits of poetry, nature scribbles, beginnings of stories, and random thoughts into a creative journal. Poems, dreams, drawings, ideas scribbled in margins, lists, short stories, comics, journal entries, photographs, and more will be incorporated to create an inspiring, personal anthology. Each workshop will focus on a specific artistic technique (printing, collage, watercolor, etc.). Much emphasis will be placed on celebrating each child's particular mode of artistic expression.

Emily Neuburger of

Red Bird Crafts, is an artist, writer, teacher, and freelance children’s craft designer who creates out of her home studio in Amherst, Massachusetts.  She finds great joy in teaching, and loves to guide children and adults as their own imaginative and unique adventures unfold.  Threaded throughout her work are simple lines, organic shapes, vibrant colors, and repurposed materials.   She is particularly drawn to hand printing because she is fascinated with the glorious imperfection in each design.

Emily’s background in education fuels her passion for creating designs that tell stories to the children who love them.  Embedded in each carefully designed project is the hope that they will inspire imaginative thought, and at the same time, spread around a little bit of joy. She eyes her surroundings in search of beautiful colors and interesting ideas as she gathers ideas for her design work. She is most interested in earthly, everyday, regular things, and enjoys capturing their essence in her art.

Emily is a local educator and author of a craft book for families and educators due to be published by Storey Publishing in Spring 2012.  Some of her unique craft projects for children have been published in Family Fun and Parenting magazines.  She blogs regularly at www.redbirdcrafts.com.
